Destination Himalaya

List of Family Adventures

If you have children, why not make the world your classroom?  Travel helps children to appreciate diversity.  It teaches them about tolerance.  It opens their minds.  After all, what children think of the world depends on what you show them.

Our Family Adventures are specially designed to meet the needs of active families.  Recommended departure dates coincide with school vacation periods (although you could book a private family adventure any time of the year.)  Trip leaders are parents themselves, and when appropriate, may bring their own children along.  Itineraries are family-friendly and include visits to village schools, homes, and always involve interaction with local children.  Every three to four days, we also provide expert childcare services to give parents an occasional adults' night out.  Ask any parent who has taken a great adventure with a child: it brings families closer and creates memories that are cherished forever.

Our family adventures are named in tribute to the Magic Tree House series of books and like the books, the tours are designed to take families to wonder-filled, magical, out-of-the-ordinary places that still exist in today's world.

Elephants in Springtime:
(An elephant safari in India)

Corbett National Park is one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries in India. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalaya with the Ramganga River flowing through it and home to abundant wildlife, the park makes a perfect backdrop for an elephant safari. You even get to bathe your own elephant!

Recommended for Spring/Easter break.

Up close to dino fossils

Dinosaurs in the Summer:
(The Gobi Desert of Mongolia)

Mongolia's Gobi Desert was one of the first places on Earth to yield its treasure of dinosaur fossils. Staying in ger camps, we take Bactrian (two-humped) camels on a safari into the Gobi and join in on a real dinosaur fossil dig.

Recommended for Summer/Fall.

New friends

Chasing Yaks at Dawn:
(A hiking tour in Tibet)

Our Tibet Family Adventure is designed for older kids (8+) and incorporates a day's rafting on the Brahmaputra (grade 2 rapids) with a three-day wilderness trek.

Recommended for Summer.

Drivers Seva and Kartar with young traveler

Camels at Christmas:
(Touring in Rajasthan, India)

Rajasthan, camels and kids make a wonderful combination. Rajasthanis love children and children love the specter of the colorful desert nomads and their camel trains. From a private desert retreat near the fortress city of Jodhpur, we explore the tribal communities and stark beauty of Rajasthan's Thar Desert.

Recommended for Christmas/New Year break.

A tiger roars

Tigers in the New Year:
(In search of the Royal Bengal Tiger, India)

Ranthambore Tiger Preserve is our choice of Tiger parks to visit in the winter season, where we spend three days in search of the Bengal Tiger. Leaving Delhi, we visit the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary before reaching the Tiger Park, Ranthambore. Also scheduled in this itinerary is a half-day camel ride through small villages.

Recommended for Christmas/New Year break.
