In the 19th century, the word trek evolved from the Africaan word trekken meaning “a stage in a journey by ox wagon.” The word, of course, still implies a journey, but of a more challenging kind! A variety of trekking options is yours at Destination Himalaya. In India, we trek in untrammeled areas of the Zanskar region of Ladakh, and to the base of Kangchenjunga in Sikkim. We hike to Everest from Nepal in the south and from Tibet in the north. The revered Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in Tibet are on our trek list, as are the sacred mountains, Kawakarpo in Yunnan and Chomolhari in Bhutan.
In even the most remote areas of Asia's mountain ranges there are villages and communities whose inhabitants are as curious about you as you are about them. It is truly a delight and a privilege to learn something of these people and cultures in an environment so very far removed from the western world. Each and every trek is both a wilderness experience and a cultural odyssey. From our inception, the mighty Himalaya have been our specialty...indeed, this is why we call ourselves Destination Himalaya!

The Munsel-Ling School: Spiti
Spiti Valley, a breathtaking land set in the far reaches of Northern India’s Himalayan peaks. Here, subsistence farmers cultivate small plots of land using snow melt from the Himalayas. This isolation preserved the Spiti culture and traditions, but left the children far behind, without opportunity for education. Singalilla Ridge to Kanchenjunga
